Has anyone taken inspiration from zombie novels?

For example, Max brooks World War Z?

It almost seems as though such a book was made to accompany Outbreak: Undead. It has a bunch of short stories in it, which would work well for a few one-shot sessions.

With this new Wild Kingdoms book being released, one could re-live The Walking Dead too.

Other than that, there's always zombie videogames set in cities. I can't imagine how amazing it would be to relive a Resident Evil game with the added perils that are your mental sanity and hunger, things like that which weren't in the videogame itself.

Or you could even relive a movie!

Does anyone here have any success stories that drew inspiration from sources like those I've mentioned?

Day by Day apocalypse has a lot of great stuff. The house boat works well for a stronghold, but I don't do much of the stronghold mingame stuff for OU.

Day By Day Apocalypse has a great premise for the outbreak, as well as a good impetus to get the players to move (The government is going to nuke your city) - better run) (And I am pretty sure this is from DbDA - might be wrong). Anyway, the radiation mutates some zombies making them nastier, which is a great in-game way for introducing advanced templates or improved zombies to increase the danger to players who will, by then, have a good handle on surviving all the "normal" stuff.

Yes, the irradiated zombies pose an extra hazard, and it slows down the rotting process ;)

We pretty much saturated ourselves with zombie lore in some form or another to produce this stuff but we tried not to identify with any source too closely. We wanted to allow players to apply whatever world they want represented using our system.

Quarantine 2: Terminal inspired me. Though I've done nothing with the inspiration, yet. I thought it was a better movie than the original...nobody running around with a camera super-glued to their hand.
